THREE STRIKES AND LNP SHOULD BE OUT WITH QLD BUILDING INDUSTRY
Minister for Public Works Robert Schwarten today said that the Queensland building industry should remember how the LNP kicked it while it was down during the Global Financial Crisis.
(PressZoom) - Minister for Public Works Robert Schwarten today said that the Queensland building industry should remember how the LNP kicked it while it was down during the Global Financial Crisis.
Mr Schwarten said the LNP had betrayed the industry three times when it needed help to stay afloat in hard financial times.
“The old rule is ‘three strikes and you’re out’,” Mr Schwarten said.
“On that basis, the LNP should be out with every employer, supplier, worker and family involved with the construction industry in Queensland,” he said.
The LNP:
OPPOSED the Bligh Government’s record $17 billion infrastructure program, which is creating 106,000 construction jobs.
OPPOSED Federal Labor’s Building the Education Revolution, which funded 24,500 projects in 9500 schools across Australia, employing around 200,000 workers in the past two years.
PROMISED to cut the Bligh Government’s record infrastructure program if it is ever elected in Queensland. On Friday, August 27, LNP Shadow Treasurer Tim Nicholls said on ABC radio the LNP would cut Queensland’s record infrastructure program - and the jobs that go with it - if it was ever elected in Queensland.
Mr Schwarten said the Queensland construction industry was still trying to recover from the severe effects of the Global Financial Crisis.
“The Bligh Government is supporting that recovery with Australia’s largest infrastructure program,” he said.
“In contrast, the LNP would rather spend money on unemployment benefits than hospitals, schools, roads and jobs.”
Mr Schwarten said major projects likely to be at risk under the LNP included:
·Queensland Police Academy 3750 jobs
·Sunshine Coast University Hospital 9000 jobs
·Queensland Children’s Hospital 7500 jobs
Other Bligh Government projects and jobs numbers are:
Project Number of jobs
AFL Stadium, Carrara 1,100
Brisbane Supreme and District Courts 5,000
Cairns Hospital Redevelopment 2,596
Cleveland Youth Detention Centre 1,450

Mr Schwarten said the Queensland construction industry has been dudded three times by the LNP.
“I hope the industry has a long memory and remembers its treatment by the LNP,” he said.
