(PressZoom) - Two new fire and rescue tankers have arrived at the Monto and Wondai Auxiliary Fire Stations to coincide with the beginning of this year’s bushfire season.
Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts said the new Type 2 Urban Pumper Tankers, worth a combined $700,000, will be used by crews to respond to structure fires, road crash rescues, wildfires, and hazardous materials incidents.
“With bushfire season now upon us these vehicles are an important step in ensuring local fire services are adequately equipped to keep the community safe,” Mr Roberts said.
“The new Type 2 Urban Pumper Tanker vehicles are fitted with a 2000 litre capacity water tank, a high pressure fire fighting pump and two 60 meter hose reels.”
“The tankers are also equipped with $60,000 worth of the latest Road Crash Rescue and Recovery Equipment, making them a highly valuable tool when responding to road incidents.”
“In addition, the vehicles feature enhanced energy efficient emergency lighting, pneumatic mastlights, thermal imaging cameras and atmospheric monitoring units.”
“These capabilities provide better visibility and safety at emergency scenes and increase the vehicles’ operational capacity.”
Mr Roberts said the equipment layout of the new vehicles had been reworked to ensure optimum effectiveness when operating alongside existing fleet vehicles and their crews.
“The delivery of these new vehicles reaffirms the Bligh Government’s commitment to supporting our hardworking men and women in the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service,” he said.
“The Type 2 appliances have an operational life of 15 years which guarantees they’ll not only be of great benefit during bushfire season, but they’ll be a valuable addition to fire and rescue services in the Monto and Wondai communities well into the future.”
