(PressZoom) - In a reversal of letters sent out, GM has announced that up to 661 dealerships will have the chance to be reinstated after being cut by the automobile giant. The GM reinstatement of dealerships was in response to the some 1,100 arbitration cases filed by those receiving the termination letter.
The letters were sent to poorly performing dealerships last year in a cost cutting move for the automaker. The closing of under performing dealerships was part of the massive bankruptcy filed by GM last year.
The 661 dealerships have to meet certain performance goals set by GM to keep the dealerships in good standing.
The U.S. Congress involved itself in the GM closing of dealerships when it ordered arbitration to be offered to all closed dealerships. GM had offered the 661 dealerships a chance to regain their locations to cut down the arbitration process.
