(PressZoom) - Women's top 10 contestant Crystal Bowersox was allowed to perform on the American Idol live video broadcast. Crystal Bowersox had fallen ill in previous days and reportedly hospitalized due to complications with her diabetes.
The American Idol featured singer was part of the group of top 10 women to sing Monday night, but the illness suffered by Bowersox caused producers to scrap the women's competition and move up the men's portion to Monday night. Controversy ensued due to an extra day for the women with one less day for men. Other issues surfaced as to preferential treatment of Bowersox. The performance was enthusiastically received by the judges who commented as to her improvement from last week.
The American Idol competition has not had a contestant absent from the top ten performance due to illness. No comment from American Idol producers as to what would have happened if Bowersox was not in a position to perform.
Eliminations are expected at the end of the week with two men and two women to be ousted from the show.
