Reports from box offices show the take for this weekend was around $140 million in the U.S. with a total of $258.8 million worldwide. This more than doubled the sales from the first installment of the Twilight series.
The series is based on author Stephenie Meyer's novels.
"New Moon", the second in the series, continues the love story between a young school girl and her romance with a vampire. The stars of the movie are Kristen Stewart as the girl with Robert Pattison as the vampire love interest. This second movie introduces a new character of the werewolf played by Taylor Lautner.
