Research fellows join University Hygienic Laboratory
Ryan "Broc" Neil of North Liberty, a doctoral candidate in the UI Department of Microbiology, will begin a two-year postdoctoral emerging infectious disease research fellowship, conducting research on antibiotic resistance in Staphylococcus areus.
(PressZoom) - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Association of Public Health Laboratories have funded fellowships for two new researchers at the University Hygienic Laboratory ( UHL ), beginning this fall.
Ryan "Broc" Neil of North Liberty, a doctoral candidate in the UI Department of Microbiology, will begin a two-year postdoctoral emerging infectious disease research fellowship, conducting research on antibiotic resistance in Staphylococcus areus.
Jeremi Mullins of Fairborn, Ohio, who recently received a master's degree in biology at Wright State University, will begin a one-year training fellowship, focusing on a pandemic influenza preparedness research project.
The fellowship program helps prepare scientists for careers in public health laboratories. UHL has participated in the program since it began in 1996, and several former fellows are current UHL employees.
