(PressZoom) - Leaders with University of Iowa Health Care and Heery International today announced the final selection of two firms for the architectural team that will work on the proposed replacement hospital additions and renovations at UI Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
HKS, Inc. Architecture of Dallas, Texas, will provide overall design leadership for the facility and lead the master planning effort for the project. Stanley Beaman & Sears Architecture and Interiors of Atlanta, Ga., specialists in children's hospital environments, will focus on scripting and designing the pediatric experience.
Iowa's only comprehensive academic medical center is planning to build a critical care tower and children's hospital. UI officials previously announced the Iowa City office of Heery International as the architect of record for the project.
Construction is slated to begin in May 2010 with a projected completion date of September 2013. The towers and a subsequent renovation of patient care areas are expected to cost between $700 and $850 million over the coming decade.
UI Health Care leaders said the project is critically important to modernize the physical plant. The project will enhance access and convenience for patients and their families, making the center more user-friendly.
HKS, Inc. Architecture, with 65 years of experience, is considered among the leading architectural firms in the nation. Its practice includes health care facilities, corporate headquarters, office buildings and public facilities, among many other structures.
Stanley Beaman & Sears Architecture and Interiors has designed children's hospitals for clients such as Comer Children's Hospital in Chicago, Ill., Reuter Children's Outpatient Center in Asheville, N.C., and the Nemours Children's Clinic in Orlando, Fla., for more than 25 years.
