Senior officials from 29 nations will gather in Garmisch, Germany to discuss the role of military forces in homeland security.
(PressZoom) - Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany — U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense Peter Verga and Austrian Chief of Defense Staff Roland Ertl will be among the experts to address approximately 90 senior officials from 29 countries at a conference on Euro-Atlantic perspectives on the role of military forces in homeland security here May 22-25.
The George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies, the Office of the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense and the Strategic Studies Institute of the United States Army War College are co-sponsoring the conference to promote greater understanding and cooperation within the international homeland security community. In a series of panel discussions and working groups, participants will • analyze different approaches to the employment of military forces in support of homeland defense and security; • examine the role of military forces in support of civil authority; • develop initiatives to improve allied and partner homeland security programs and related activities.
Participants include senior officials from ministries and agencies supporting homeland security in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romani, Slovenia, Serbia and Montenegro, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The conference will be conducted in English, German and Russian.
